The junior version of the Hyperfreak series puts the same neoprene into a smaller suit. Youth Hyperfreak 5/4+ Chest Zip Full is built from TechnoButter 3 and TB3X, closes with the F.U.Z.E. chest zip and comes in Tempsteel/Twilightblue/Smoke.
5/4+ is neoprene thickness: 5 mm across the torso, 4 mm through arms and legs, plus half a millimetre of extra material for warmth. TechnoButter 3 covers body and legs and is 20 percent lighter than earlier neoprene with 30 percent less water absorption. That matters a lot to a young surfer wearing a suit all day. TB3X in the arms and shoulders stretches freely, so the material itself never tires the arms out. Seams are glued and blindstitched, locking water out without stiffening the suit. The F.U.Z.E. closure sits across the chest rather than the back, which makes it manageable without help. Krypto Knee Padz protect the knees against board and bottom, and there is an external key pocket with loop. O'Neill rates the suit for water between 4 and 11 degrees Celsius.
- TechnoButter 3: light enough to wear all day
- TB3X arms and shoulders: free stretch
- F.U.Z.E. chest zip: easy to manage alone
- Glued and blindstitched seams: sealed and flexible
- Krypto Knee Padz: knees survive board and bottom
- 30 percent less water absorption: the suit stays light
- External key pocket with loop: keys stay put
This is a suit for juniors who surf or kite all year and should not have to stop because the water turned cold. Light neoprene and low water absorption are what keep them out there hour after hour.
