THE STORY OF VOLCOM

Volcom is a lifestyle brand started back in 1991 by Richard Woolcott and Tucker Hall. The two friends went on an annual snowboarding trip, even though Tucker had just been laid off from his job. The two friends met up with two more friends and transformed into a strong foursome. After four fantastic days with powder up to their ears, Richard made the drastic decision to call his workplace with the excuse that they were snowed in, and therefore he couldn't come to work. The friends stayed in the ski area for another week, enjoying the fantastic powder snow—it was, by the way, the friends' first encounter with real powder.

Upon returning home, Richard quit his job and headed to the mountains again. He wanted to realize himself and snowboard. At the same time, Richard and Tucker talked a lot about starting a company that would produce and sell lifestyle clothing in the three categories they love; snowboarding, skateboarding, and surfing. Richard's father lent the boys $5,000 to get started. First came the name, then the logo, and Volcom became a reality.

Volcom has a vision that transforms obstacles into opportunities. Therefore, creative solutions are also seen in the belief in solving the impossible.

Volcom is today a strong international brand sold worldwide. Back in the early years, the company was run from Richard's bedroom, but today the company has an impressive headquarters in Costa Mesa, California.
