From garage to international LINE
'It's not fun to ski’—this is how Line described the ski environment in the 90s, elaborating with 'what ski models were possible? Straight, stiff or uninspiring.’ Line's mission was to change that. In 1995, the adventure began, and Line started up like all other great companies, in a garage. Before we get to the story of Line, we need to establish the brain behind the company, Jason Levinthal. He grows up as a teenager where action sports evolve from nothing to a respected traditional sport, and during this time, Jason lives and breathes action sports. Unfortunately, innovation and interest in ski equipment are declining; the ski companies have long decided to make straight, long, and pointed skis. At 21, Jason is in his final year of college, studying product design and graphic design, spending most of his time in the school's woodshop, where he develops the first ski prototype. After graduation, Jason moves back to his parents' house, where LINE SKIS is born in his garage. In 1996, Jason works hard to build his new ski line, taking a full 8 hours to make a pair of skis. One day, he receives a fax from Japan with an order for 1000 pairs, after which Line moves out of the garage.
