Inspired by the legendary X-15 hypersonic rocket-powered aircraft, the new Starboard X-15 Foil Slalom board is designed to break speed records. Co-designed by Jim Drake, a pioneer who significantly influenced windsurfing development, this board embodies his innovative spirit. The X-15 flies fast and high, delivering unparalleled efficiency and speed, just like its namesake.

THE X-15 IN DETAIL
For 2023, Starboard introduces three entirely new Foil Slalom shapes, with a keen focus on aerodynamic improvement and high-speed optimization using small, low-drag foil wings. Key design features include:

Lower Nose Rocker: Reduces aerodynamic lift and drag at high speeds, while a significant increase in forward vee prevents catapults during touchdowns.
Aerodynamic Design: Soft convex deck and smooth tail exit reduce high-speed drag, making the X-15 feel extremely slippery and always ready to accelerate.
Convex Nose: The flat deck shape with a slight convex ensures minimal wind resistance, allowing for higher speeds.
Recessed Mast Track: Lower center of gravity for increased control, making unexpected board movements in gusts or windholes easier to manage.
Deep Cutaways: Extended cutaways decrease drag before takeoff and accelerate the transition into flight mode by quickly reducing wetted surface area as speed increases.
Back Footstrap Position: For slalom speed, the back foot position is further inside, allowing faster downwind and reaching speeds with a more comfortable position and reduced power on the back foot.
Extra Thin Pads: Designed to be extra thin for added control, with diamond grooves for perfect grip, as there are no impacts to absorb when foiling.
Yulex Neoprene: Drake footstraps are made with FSC-certified, sustainably-sourced plant-based Yulex foam. With 85% natural rubber content, CO² emissions during manufacturing are reduced by 80%, while 15% synthetic neoprene improves UV resistance.

Optimized Flex: Full T700 unidirectional flat-woven carbon underside for maximum stiffness, with T700 biax carbon decks oriented at angles to optimize flex and response.
Sandwich Core: Composite sandwich layers use quality 3mm PVC H100 and H80 ultra-high-density foams in high-stress areas for precise flex and control.
Premium Materials - Premium Ride: Each Carbon Reflex board is made from high-end materials, laminated to tightly controlled layup specifications using premium high-strength Sicomin epoxy resins with enhanced UV resistance.
