Swapping the hood to match the conditions is what the Mutant series is about. The Mutant 4/3+ Chest Zip Full w/Hood uses the O'Neill Modular Chest Zip, where neck and hood are interchangeable without tools, and it comes in black.
4/3+ is neoprene thickness: 4 mm across the torso, 3 mm through arms and legs, plus half a millimetre of extra material for warmth. Chest, back and legs use recycled TechnoButter 3, while the arms and the entry panel run TB3X for more stretch. The modular closure is the heart of the system. Hood and neck share a single seal, so you can ride hooded on the coldest days and open when the water softens, all in one suit. The shoulders use a seamless contortionist design that does not bind while paddling. Tapered cuffs at the wrists and ankles carry plasma seals to slow flushing. Seams are triple glued and blindstitched with exterior Fluid Seam Weld technology. There is a key pocket with loop, and lamination is solvent free Aqua Alpha.

Mutant suits anyone who would rather not own two winter suits. Hooded it is a proper cold water rig, and without the hood it is an ordinary 4/3 that carries you well into spring.
