The ankle tongue from Burton's Double Take system is the spare for the upper strap on the binding. It is the toothed plastic strip that the ankle buckle ratchets along as you pull the strap down.

A complete strap on a Burton binding is assembled from four pieces: tongue, slider, buckle and the strap itself. The tongue is normally anchored on the pinkie toe side and carries closely spaced teeth for the buckle to bite into as it takes up slack. Each binding runs two tongues, one at the toe and one at the ankle, and this is the ankle tongue, the one under the highest load because the ankle strap is the one you crank hardest. The part belongs to the Double Take family, and Burton's Double Take buckles and Double Take Hammock straps are made specifically for Double Take tongues, so the system needs to stay matched for the ratchet to engage properly. Tongues are among the components that go brittle in the cold and wear round over time, and a tongue that will not hold means a strap that slowly creeps loose on the way down.

  • Ankle tongue: the toothed strip for the ankle strap
  • Double Take: matches Double Take buckles
  • Strap ready: built for Double Take Hammock straps
  • Highest load: the ankle strap is cranked hardest
  • Single part: no need to replace the binding
  • Easy swap: ordinary hand tools are enough

This part is for snowboarders running Burton bindings in the Double Take configuration whose ankle strap no longer stays put. It gives the buckle full grip again, locking the ankle down so the binding feels precise from the first turn.
