The Double Take system runs its own buckle, and the Burton Double Take Toe Buckle is the black replacement for the toe strap. It is built to work with Double Take tongues and does not simply interchange with Burton's other tongue types.
A buckle is the ratcheting mechanism that travels over the tongue and pulls slack out of the strap as you tighten it. Burton strap bindings normally use one toe buckle and one ankle buckle, and a complete strap consists of tongue, slider, buckle and the strap itself. The tongue is anchored on the pinkie toe side and carries closely spaced teeth for the buckle to bite into, and that tooth spacing differs from system to system. Keeping tongue and buckle inside the same family therefore matters: this buckle belongs to Double Take. The toe buckle sits lowest on the binding and gets worked every time you strap in, often with cold fingers and gloves on, and it is the component that absorbs the impact when a board goes down a staircase or into a car boot.
