When choosing a length, several factors come into play, such as your weight, snowboard construction, shape, profile and how you like to stand. If you like fast turns and good maneuverability you should go down a size, whereas if it's stability and speed you're after, a larger size is more appropriate.
W or not W (Wide)
Some sizes have a W at the end, e.g. 158w. The W stands for wide and means that the snowboard is a wider version. Typically, it will be from size 44 in shoes and up where you should start considering wide snowboards as an option.
NB: Snowboards typically get wider the longer they get, so a 162 long board can have the same width as a wide board in 158, so it's no problem to fit a large or X-large binding on it. So it's always a good idea to check the width of the snowboard if you have big feet, even if it's not wide.
