You have probably tried many different "life jackets," but there is actually a clear definition of a classic life jacket and a classic buoyancy vest. The two types undoubtedly resemble each other greatly but have two different functions. We can start by defining the characteristics of a life jacket:
When looking at life jackets, there are two different kinds. The inflatable life jackets and the regular life jackets. We have chosen to focus on the regular life jackets. A traditional life jacket consists of a foam material that keeps you afloat over the water. Additionally, life jackets have a collar that automatically turns you onto your back, so even in an unconscious state, you will be able to breathe.
The buoyancy vest shares a number of similarities with the classic life jacket. The buoyancy vest is constructed in much the same way as the life jacket, but without the collar. This also means that people with a buoyancy vest do not automatically turn over in the water so that they can breathe if unconscious. However, this means that buoyancy vests provide you with greater mobility/flexibility if you use them for kayaking or wind and kite surfing. You can see our entire selection of buoyancy vests.here.
An impact vest is a vest used for wakeboarding, kite and windsurfing, and water skiing. The vest is incredibly important to wear if (when) you fall off your board. Therefore, it is very important to choose the right impact vest that fits closely to the body.An impact vest should not be confused with the two other types of vests – life jackets and swim vests – since impact vests do not have the same buoyancy. This also means that an impact vest is lighter and provides better mobility than the other two types of vests. Impact vests offer you overall better maneuverability, which is especially useful for practicing wake and water ski enthusiasts. You can see our entire selection of impact vestshere.
We have a small selection of life jackets for juniors from Helly Hansen. These vests are traditional life jackets with a collar that ensures your child will be turned correctly and always have the ability to breathe. Therefore, it is important to have a life jacket for your child if you are going sailing or similar activities where you might be over deep water. Maintenance is always an important nuisance that one always has to deal with. When it comes to maintaining your west, it is super simple and easy. After a trip in saltwater, it is always important to rinse the zipper opening in the vest with fresh water, as saltwater over time erodes and destroys the zipper.
