Supermatic
You've probably seen them on the mountain and felt the envy. The Supermatic binding is what many snowboarders have been waiting for. The self-closing binding that doesn't compromise on performance or boots, making you more mobile and faster than the skiers have come. No more struggling to get down and buckle your bindings after you're wet and dry, tired and standing in the thin air up on the glacier. Now it's just click in standing and off you go. Spend your excess on the piste and not at the lift.
How does it work?
The Supermatic binding actually works in two ways. You can use it as a normal two-strap binding or you can use the self-closing system.
The self-locking system means that when you put the binding on for the first time, you can lock how much you want the two straps over your foot. You can then lift your heel and push out the hi-back with a small switch at the heel and easily step out of the binding. To get back into the binding, simply step into it with your forefoot first. When you then step down with your heel, the hi-back is pushed in and locks the binding, and you get the same fit from the rest of the binding as when you first put it on. There's no doubt that you'll use the self-locking system 98% of the time, and only use the classic two-strap if you need to click in a sketchy spot.
Can I use it?
The short answer is yes. The Supermatic binding is designed to be compatible with all standard snowboard boots and snowboards. So you don't need to buy a whole set if you have some awesome boots that you love.
Does it work?
The comfort, lightness and consistent fit, there are many reasons to add the Supermatic binding from Nidecker to your snowboard set-up. And yes, it seems almost too good to be true, so we put it to the test.
Several employees from our stores were allowed to borrow it in the snow this winter, and it was with a little skepticism (many of us are a bit old school). But there hasn't been a single bad review. The most used phrases are "it works surprisingly well", and "It really keeps the fit all day". So if it can convert and impress experienced old-school (conservative) snowboarders with many preferences, there's no doubt that the Supermatic binding is here to stay.
