Finding the perfect fitting ski boot can often be a problem, and for good reason. We all have different feet in terms of length, width and overall foot anatomy, which the ski boot sole does not take into account. For this reason, ski boot insoles have become very popular among many ski enthusiasts who really value a ski boot with high comfort and performance.

3 reasons why ski boot insoles are so popular

  1. Insoles can optimize foot performance by transferring the power from the ski boot more directly to the ski's edge grip.
  2. The foot relaxes more during skiing, providing better balance for foot position and overall posture.
  3. During skiing, the Insole can help with shin splints, groin problems and relieve pain in the feet, knees, hips and back.

3 types of feet
When choosing the right insole, the anatomy of the foot is divided into basic shapes based on 3 different types of feet.

Low arch

The low arch is characterized by the foot being more flat than curved. Many soles today are produced with a certain degree of buning, which means that people with a low arch often struggle to feel comfort and balance in their ski boots.

Medium arch

Medium arch is the category that most of us fall into. Here, the pressure from the foot is distributed to 3 points, which are obviously the heel, the pads and the big and little toe. The degree of medium arch can vary, which is why it can be difficult to find the right fit for your footwear.

High arch

The high arch is so high that it often doesn't distribute pressure evenly between the heel and ball of the foot. The arch is so high that the center of the foot doesn't make contact with the ground and often means that the foot becomes stressed from the constant muscle tension.

How do you get an insole for your ski boot?

More and more ski shops have realized that there is a need for custom-made insoles that fit the skier's foot anatomy exactly. If you have an extra 10 minutes when you visit One Open Sky, and maybe you demand a little more from your ski boot fit, we make 3D engineered insoles. Your foot anatomy is scanned by our Bootdoc machine, which creates a holistic picture of how your personal insole should be shaped. The question is whether the insole should be 3D modulated directly to your individual ski boot fit or whether the insole should be pre-shaped. The embossed insole is based on the 3 types of arch in the foot and the advantage is that it can be used in everyday footwear or sports shoes where the need for a healthy foot position is important.
