The Oakley Maple Ridge 1/2 Zip Fleece is a men's fleece that works as a midlayer under a shell and on its own once the lifts stop. This one comes in the Abyss colourway, built from 100 percent polyester.
The fabric is 100 percent polyester with stretch, and that combination is what makes it work as a midlayer. Polyester moves moisture away from the skin rather than soaking it up, so you are not sitting in a cold wet layer under your shell when you stop on the chairlift. The stretch means the layer travels with you and does not lock the shoulders in a turn. The half zip runs up into a stand-up collar, which is the simplest form of temperature control there is: close it fully when the wind picks up on the ridge, drop it down when your heart rate climbs. The collar covers the throat, which is where cold air usually sneaks in above a jacket. At the bottom, a drawcord hem holds the fleece in place so it does not ride up when you bend.
